It is Safer Internet Day 2023 today, and this year’s theme to promote internet safety is ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online.’

Each year, Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns, from cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity.

At Bootham, we aim to help all students to become the best person that each can be and to achieve the best of which each is capable. To promote kindness, a questioning spirit, humility, and a deep sense of social responsibility, as well as both the courage and confidence to speak up, and to work to build a better world. As well as the habits of hard work and self-regulation; and the meeting of high standards of personal conduct in all aspects of work and relationships. Now, more than ever, this is applicable to the digital world and all it entails for our students.

SaferInternet.Org.UK are asking parents, guardians and teachers, government, policymakers, and the wider online safety industry to take time to listen to children and younger people and make positive change together. Questions such as:

  • What issues really matter to children and young people?
  • What changes do they want to see?
  • How can we all work together to advocate for them moving forward?

TOP TIPS

We’d also like to share SaferInternet.Org.UK top tips about internet safety and how to stay safe online. How young people can express how they feel about their experiences online, split into age appropriate sections for ages 3-18 and as well as for parents and guardians. Please click the appropriate button below:

We hope these can be a springboard for conversations that shape how to talk about and respond to online issues, not just for today, but throughout the whole year.
