From helping a vulnerable neighbour to volunteering with a local charity, there are many ways you can help at the moment.

Community Outreach

Keeping an eye out for vulnerable neighbours, friends and family is one of the simplest and easiest ways to help those who are vulnerable, self-isolating, lonely and busy key workers. COVID-19 Mutual Aid UK is a charity covering the country that has been set up, listing ‘good neighbour’ groups in your area.  It also gives details of how to help people safely.

Volunteering

There are many ways to volunteer at this time.  You can volunteer with a local charity in your area who may need extra help at this time.  Food banks are under considerable pressure.  The Trussell Trust foodbank network will show opportunities in your local area, from delivery drivers to social media advocates.  There are plenty of ways to help.

The NHS in England put out a call to us all for volunteer responders to help key workers.  Jobs such as; delivering medicines; driving patients to and from the hospital, or if you are stuck at home then helping make regular phone calls to others self-isolating or extremely vulnerable.

Donating

Donations are always welcome at a time of need.  Therefore if you feel the best way you can help is to donate then do so via somewhere like the National Emergencies Trust. They are coordinating a wide range of organisations to ensure the maximum amount of money is raised and distributed fairly to the charities who need it the most.

Stay at Home

Finally, one of the most effective ways of helping right now is to stay at home! It might not always be easy but it is making a huge difference.  Check out our #boothamcommunity albums on Facebook to see what some of our students, teachers and parents have been up to whilst on lockdown.  If you are looking for some ideas to keep you busy over the next few weeks then why not try some of the following:

Most of all we ask that you stay safe during these unsettling times.  Your family, friends, health and wellbeing are the most important things to look after.

And please remember to show your support every Thursday evening at 8 pm to #clapforourcarers
