Poster against casual racism

As part of Black History month and our Social Action programme, Bootham Upper Schoolroom students have been working on educating others about casual racism.

Posters were designed to be displayed all around the school after they explored this theme in WAG and held a morning meeting on BLM. Students also used the Stephen Lawrence Foundation materials to stimulate discussion. Bravely, one member of the class also shared their experience of casual racism, to help the group understand it better.

Like other forms of racism, casual racism can marginalise or humiliate those who experience it. Harm can occur even if a comment or action isn’t motivated by hate or malice.  Students posters show and explain what you could do if you encounter and encourage others to really think.  Students will also be covering BLM within PSHE lessons.
