During the Autumn term the Bootham School community once again took part in a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ scheme. The Reverse Advent Calendar is a very simple idea – instead of receiving a gift, or chocolate, on each day of Advent students and staff donated items to York Foodbank.

York Foodbank provides help for local people who need a little extra support, especially at this time of year. 2020, in particular, was a hugely difficult year. More people in the UK are facing poverty as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Food banks have been working tirelessly to support people in crisis through this unprecedented challenge. Recently, there has been a significant rise in the number of people being forced to use food banks and more and more people are struggling to eat because they simply cannot afford food.

Student, staff and parent support and engagement in this scheme was truly overwhelming resulting in nearly 1800 items being donated to York Foodbank.

A herculean effort, and gratefully received during such difficult times.

If you would like to donate or help York Foodbank, please visit their website, there are many different ways to lend your support.
