Name: Kayleigh Oliver

Role(s): Head of Social Action

I started in this new, exciting job role at Bootham at the beginning of September, marking my return to the education sector after 6 years out. Previously, I have worked as a teacher in London for a number of years, but have also worked in marketing and business engagement, and ran my own successful creative business in York.  Most recently, I spent several years working in a grassroots community charity doing outreach work, including running one of the council’s distribution hubs during the first 6 months of the pandemic, supporting isolated and vulnerable households across York. In my spare time, I volunteer for two different local charities – Tang Hall Big Local as a trustee board member, and the Joseph Rowntree Theatre as a project manager, working on fundraising.

I love working with people, and “social action” is a term which is all about people – it’s about community, about making a  positive difference. Helping others, whether it’s a huge charity event for a global charity, or just little kindnesses in every day actions, I believe is one of the most important and fulfilling things we can do in life. As I get to grips with the new role, I look forward to working with the brilliant community at Bootham to further the great work in place already, to continue inspiring our students in their learning, and support them to develop their passions and be leaders of social action, inside and outside school.
