Many will know – but some will not be aware – that our Director of Music, Richard Allain, is also a highly regarded composer. He was recently a guest at an event celebrating 100 years of the Music Department of Oxford University Press, held in the beautiful chapel of Merton College, Oxford. He is pictured alongside fellow composers (including John Rutter, Bob Chilcott, Cecilia McDowell, David Hill, Kim Porter and Philip Moore) featured in the newly published volume Carols for Choirs 6. Richard set the 16thC text ‘Sweet was the song’ for his carol Lute Book Lullaby.

Another musical York connection is that Rachel Lindley, OUP’s current Director of Music Publishing is the granddaughter of Alfred Lindley who was Headmaster of Bootham School 1961-1971.
