International selection for two Bootham students.

Congratulations to Angus McMillan (College 2) who has been selected to represent England at the World Schools’ Cross Country championships in Paris and also to Toby Price (College 2) who has been selected to represent the Great Britain Pentathlon team at the Under 19 European Cup in Spain. Many congratulations to them for their hard work and dedication. We look forward to hearing how they get on.

The games against Aysgarth were unfortunately cancelled last Saturday due to snow. However a number of games did get played last week. The 1st XI were knocked out of the County Cup last Wednesday at the quarter final stage against Richmond School. Despite a 5-1 defeat the game was much more competitive than the score-line. Bootham played really well against a team which contained six county players, however the team could not convert their chances whilst unfortunately making a couple of defensive errors early in the first half.

The U12 team also played well in defeat last Wednesday against Barlby. The team battled hard in a 3-0 defeat. The U14 team had a really good win against Hull Collegiate last Monday. Two very good teams played some nice football with Bootham just coming out on top. The goals were scored by Charlie Phillips (after a very neat assist from Tom Otley) and a free kick special by Jacob O’Brien.

The U13 team took part in the York area hockey tournament last Tuesday afternoon. We played 4 matches, drawing 2 and losing 2 which meant we came a creditable 3rd behind Queen Margaret’s and Tadcaster Grammar.

The U19 team played in an Inter Area Tournament last Wednesday after qualifying via the York and District Tournament earlier this year. The Bootham team were representing York and Selby and played against a team from Scarborough and Ryedale. The scores at the half way point were 19-17 to the opposition, but the team knew if they focused a little better they were capable of winning the match. The second half was as fast and skilful as the first, but our girls played some amazing tactical netball, keeping the ball for long periods of possession, and outwitting their opponents. With some strong defensive work we turned the ball over a number of times, and our shooters were outstanding – the score ending with Bootham being Champions 34 – 30. Brilliant!

Old Scholars’ Sport

Last weekend we enjoyed welcoming back lots of Old Scholars for the annual basketball & netball games and the ever popular 7 aside football tournament. It was another fantastic weekend, great to see so many old scholars take part and spectating!  Full reports will be in next week’s newsletter.
