Tom Hayes & Finlay Coad of Middle Schoolroom have been training on the Basketball Regional Development Program since May. They had their final (7 hour!) session on Saturday. We have just heard that they have both been selected as part of the final squad of 12 and will play for Yorkshire U13s in a 2 day tournament at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester, this weekend. Congratulations from us all here at Bootham and good luck for the weekend!
Pre-Season Football and Netball
The PE department are already thinking about the new season in September and would like to get a flying start with some pre-season training for U15, U16 & U18 team players in netball and football. The football will be on Wednesday 29th, Thursday 30th and Friday 31st August from 10am-1pm. The netball will be on the same Thursday and Friday at the same times. It would be great to see as many team players preparing as possible.
31 Bootham students managed to reach the finals of the York and District Athletics competition last Tuesday afternoon. Out of the 31 students who participated, there were 21 top three finishers: 10 District Champions, 5 silver medallists and 6 bronze. We also had three close 4th finishers in the relays which shows the depth of talent in athletics at Bootham. A superb achievement all-round. Read the full results list here.
Sports Day last Wednesday afternoon was a fantastic occasion for the whole school to get involved in athletics. There were a number of new school records set and everyone participated with a great deal of effort, determination and enjoyment. The eventual winners were Firbank.
An U12/13 team managed a good win against St Olave’s last Thursday evening (28 June).
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week three Quaker Schools; Bootham, Leighton Park (Reading) and Ackworth played against each other in a cricket festival at Bootham. Our 1st XI team played some superb cricket throughout the two days to win the competition despite a very close final game against Leighton Park.
The U13 team played against St Olave’s here at Bootham on 28 June. A sweltering afternoon, with some lovely skills on show, however it ended in a victory for our visitors.
We welcomed the Mount to Bootham on 19 June to play against our U12/13 and U14/15 teams – the U12/13s ended in a 6-6 draw and the U14/15s narrowly lost 18-12. In the last 2 weeks our U12, U14 and U15 teams all competed in their York and District tournaments with great success. The U12s came third, the U14s came 4th and the U15s also came a very respectable 3rd.
A huge thank you to all girls who have competed for Bootham in all sports this year, and we look forward to a fantastic new year from September!
