York City of Sanctuary put on a fabulous concert entitled Songs of Sanctuary on Monday the 2nd December, using the main hall at Bootham Senior School.

Our student volunteers did a fantastic job welcoming guests to the concert, serving non – alcoholic punch, baklava, stollen bites and mince pies before and during the event.

Raghad Haddad, a highly accomplished viola player from the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra performed playing the violin and viola. She was accompanied by Sam Slatcher who is a folk singer-songwriter living in Durham, North East England. He sang, played the guitar and piano. Their songs were a beautiful fusion of contemporary folk music and haunting Syrian tunes.

It was a magical evening!

Special thanks go to Luke Gilliver for the lighting and sound support during the evening
