  • Do you have a good rapport with young people and are you able to act as a positive role model to them?
  • Are you able to maintain positive relationships with all, and work as an effective and flexible member of a lively team?
  • Are you self-motivated, proactive and able to take on responsibility?
  • Do you have sporting, artistic, academic or recreational strengths, passions and interests you could share with our students?
  • Are you maybe considering teaching or working with young people as a career and want to test the waters?

Our well-established Resident Graduate programme attracts graduates from any discipline who are simply looking for a supportive, stimulating and purposeful year while they consider their next step, in whatever direction that may be, or maybe you’re thinking about a future career in education or youth work, and fancy ‘trying it out’ before committing. We’ve recruited most of the team now, but we still have one vacancy.

‘Res Grads’ live and work within the boarding house community at Bootham School in the centre of York to support the pastoral care and recreational activities of both day and boarding students aged from 11 to 18.

We’re an independent school focused on getting the best– intellectually, personally, spiritually – from the young people in our care.  We support an adventurous and liberating curriculum underpinned by Quaker values which aims to fully address the real needs of today’s young people.

We’re certainly not your typical ‘private’ school. Friendliness, informality, trust and mutual respect are at the heart of Bootham – teachers are addressed by their first names and our older students don’t wear a uniform. Take a peek at our website to get a flavour of the Bootham atmosphere.

By being part of this programme, you will have the opportunity to get involved in activities that reflect your interests and ambitions. For example, we can arrange for you to observe lessons and help out in the classroom or if you’re interested in sport or art or music or learning support you can help in those departments, develop your skills and share you passion with our students. On top of having a fun year, working within a team of other recent graduates, you won’t have to worry about finding accommodation or meals and you will gain loads of valuable experience for your CV!

If you’d like an informal chat about this opportunity give Jenny a call on 01904 683745.

We would love to receive your application by 9am on Friday 19th July.
