College One Geographers in London
On Tuesday 27th November the College One Geographers braved the weather and visited Stratford in the east end of London to explore the area which was partially redeveloped for the 2012 Olympics. Through questionnaires and other primary data collection and guided by Neil Larkin of Urban Geography they worked to discover if their preconceived ideas of the area were reality and if the regeneration had been successful.
Their verdict, for the E20 postcode area, a former brownfield site which became the athletes village there has been some success but for the unchanged area E15 there is still a long way to go for the community to feel the promised legacy of the Olympic Games.
A tough day in the challenging weather but plenty of Geography learned!

Interesting findings, well done to all involved. As a geographer-turned-engineer, I was lucky enough to spend several years designing some of the infrastructure for the London2012 Olympic Park. A lot of focus was placed on Legacy, and I’ve heard good things about the Park itself, but I haven’t been back to the area since to see how far the ‘ripple effect’ extended.
