Take cover…

Nursery found shade under the parachute this morning.

Last week at the Junior School saw our students enjoy National Outdoor Classroom Day, the Oxfam Dollshouse Project and letters from pen friends in Vietnam.

Oxfam Dollshouse

These are some of the wonderful rooms that Year 5 have made for the Oxfam Dollshouse Project. The children have learnt about the struggle of refugees and reflected on the types of space they might like in their homes.  What fantastic ideas!

Pen friends

Year One were delighted to receive some letters from children in Vietnam. Here we are with our replies ready to post back!

Lets go outside…

Last Thursday the children’s day started with Outdoor Assembly followed by Outdoor lessons for National Outdoor Classroom Day. We’re not sure who enjoyed the most – the children, the staff or Islay!

Poetry in motion!

Year 3 spent the morning of Outdoor Classroom Day writing ‘poetree’ about the different trees in the playground, and then moved all of their tables outside to draw some Mayan glyphs in the sunshine!

Year 5 & 6 girls had a great time at the Yorkshire Cricket Club, where 13 teams played cricket in the sunshine. Thanks to Topcliffe School and Vale of York Academy Young Leaders for the friendly game at the end of the afternoon.
