The Governing Body is known as the Governors’ Meeting.
Governors are responsible for the management of the school. They decide on its overall policy and strategy including plans for development. They are also regarded by Charity Law as the Trustees of the School and need to ensure that the School is run in accordance with its charitable objects.
Quaker members are nominated and appointed by Quakers in Yorkshire (for more information please visit www.quakersinyorkshire.org.uk). The parent body nominates two members following an election, and the Old Scholars Association nominates two members. The two parent representatives have to be a parent at the time they are elected and serve for a period of four years. When a new parent representative is needed the Head will send a letter to all parents asking for nominations (these can be self-nominated) with a resume of interests and skills. If more nominations are received than there are places a ballot is held. Representatives have to be DBS checked (the Disclosure and Barring Service provides a criminal record check for adults working with children). In addition, the Committee may co-opt up to two members on an annual basis. The Committee appoints a Clerk (Chair) and a Treasurer. Appointments are usually for four years, and a second term of four years may be served.

The Governors’ Meeting is concerned with policy, strategy and outcomes, and meets each term to receive reports and recommendations from three sub-committees. Chris Jeffery is present, together with Martyn Beer (Deputy Head), Helen Todd (Head of Junior School), Gavin Blackstone (Bursar) and Kerri Haynes-McDonnell (Staff Representative). In accordance with Quaker principles decisions are recorded in Minutes agreed by those present at the meeting.
The three sub-committees – Education, Fundraising and Finance and Resources – meet at least once each term with Chris Jeffery (Head) and other members of staff as appropriate. Each of the sub-committees has power to co-opt up to two members.
