On Tuesday 12 February WAG hosted their annual Fair Trade bake-off competition. This year themed around St Valentine’s day. Entries of 12 cup-cakes using at least 2 Fair Trade ingredients were judged by a fine panel of cake connoisseurs made up of Chris Jeffery, Ruth Crabtree and Sophie Morrison. Cakes were judged on originality of design, appearance and taste.
The winner was Ruby Salter, in Lower School Room, who had created a double decker red-velvet and cheese-cake cupcake which included chocolate dipped strawberries and white chocolate and raspberry ganache. Amelia Lawery was runner up with her imaginative marbled chocolate mini cheesecakes and Sarah Allen came third with her dark chocolate and cream cup-cakes topped with a milk chocolate heart. There was a huge range of Fair Trade ingredients show-cased and the cakes were sold in bars raising over £90 for the Bhopal Disaster charity.
Well done to all those involved.
