Last week the students from WAG (World Shaper Action Group) signed up to the International Women’s Day pledge. For more information or to see how you can sign up please go to internationalwomensday.com . They also sent a letter to Rachael Maskell MP urging action on ending UK hunger, after they learned about the #endhungerUK campaign. To read more about this campaign please go to endhungeruk.org.
Learnbags for refugee children
This week WAG collected in all the Learnbags for refugee children living in camps in Greece. Learnbags is an initiative that arose from the Quaker Peacejam back in November 2017. The idea was then brought back by Tiegan Boyens, in Upper Senior, who attended the Peacejam. Learnbags are pencil cases which are then filled with items such as pencils, pens, colouring pencils, a ruler, highlighters, an eraser, a glue stick and a little treat (something like a lip balm, key ring or wrapped sweets). We collected over 80 completed pencil cases with some tutor groups really pulling out all the stops.
Congratulations to everyone who helped but especially:
|Year Group||Tutor Group||Number of complete Learnbags|
Well done to those individual students who made a whole Learnbag themselves. I’m not sure we know all your names but here are the people we know: Laura Daniel, Tiegan Boyens, Zoe Bagley, Carina Tsang, Lois Vohra and Charlotte Collinson. Also thanks to tutors for coordinating the donations.
They will now be sent to Greece with the aid of local business Little Green Rascals, York’s first organic day nursery, who have kindly agreed to sponsor.
Thanks again to Tiegan for bringing the idea back from the Quaker PeaceJam back in the autumn. We hope that your generosity will make school a better experience for children who have lost nearly everything in their forced migration.
