Boarding School in the heart of Yorkshire
Open Days are the perfect opportunity for you to visit the school and meet our staff, current students and parents, and to view our excellent facilities.
The school has three boarding houses, each of which provides homely and comfortable accommodation in elegant Georgian buildings. Each house has its own common room, kitchen facilities for making snacks, a student laundry and Wi-Fi.
During the evenings and weekends, boarders can make good use of the school facilities through numerous extracurricular activities. There are frequent off-site activities also available to the boarders, previously these have included mountain biking, cinema trips and meals out.
You are warmly invited to join us at the Bootham School, for our open day on Saturday 18th May from 10:30am to 12:15pm.
The programme for the morning includes
10.30 – Refreshments in the School Hall
10.50 – An introduction to Bootham from Chris Jeffery, The Headmaster (School Hall)

Bootham School Boarding Facilities
We offer a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities located in the heart of York. These include our: modern art centre, music department with a large recital room, and numerous fully equipped sports facilities, such as a swimming pool and multiple tennis courts.
Our Quaker School Ethos
The values of the Society of Friends have been at the heart of Bootham School since it was founded in 1823. The purpose of Bootham’s Quaker Education is to liberate and equip its young people to flourish as adults, and to live adventurous lives that will serve to create a better world.
Our Junior School
A Bootham education is about more than knowledge, skills and paper qualifications. Our children are encouraged to be adventurous and challenging in their search for truth, to engage in the process of learning, to enjoy learning for its own sake and to continue learning after they leave school.
We offer a curriculum which stimulates different styles of learning, affording children a range of experiences through which they can reach their potential.
Our Senoir School
We appreciate the talents of each student and our small classes allow us to nurture potential from an early age.
Our students are confident enough to ask questions and to contribute ideas of their own. This produces a mature and mutually respectful learning relationship between teachers and students.
We pursue an unashamedly academic programme of study which nonetheless prizes the performing and creative arts, for example, equally with the more supposedly ‘traditional’ subjects.
