Learning Support - Gifted and Talented
Bootham offers an overall supportive environment that allows all pupils to achieve to the best of their abilities. However, various learning difficulties and differences can make it particularly hard for some students to realise their potential. The Learning Support department works in close liaison with all subject teachers to help pupils develop suitable strategies to enable them to achieve their very best. Such strategies may include special access arrangements for examinations.
From Middle Schoolroom to Upper Senior (inclusive), a small number of pupils join a Curriculum Support group within the timetabled day. This gives them the opportunity to consolidate and develop their basic skills as well as some time for doing prep with help and supervision.
College students are encouraged to use the Learning Support department where necessary.
Individual programmes of lessons are available at an extra charge.
The Learning Support department also acts as an intermediary for various external opportunities for extension beyond the curriculum for the able and interested. Bootham is a significant contributor to the ISSP (Independent/state school partnership) programme which runs in the spring and summer terms and which provides an exciting variety of short courses for all year groups.
