Bootham School Association
What is the BSA?
The BSA is a non-profit making organisation which organises and encourages opportunities for friendship, fellowship and fun for its membership.
Run by a voluntary committee comprising parents, staff and old scholars, the association also helps to promote and support the ethos of Bootham School to a wider audience during open mornings, welcome evenings for new parents in school or at the Headmaster’s home, and at other events in the school calendar.
Through a programme of varied social and sporting events, members are able to meet up and have fun on a very informal basis whilst also making use of the excellent facilities available throughout the school.
How do I Become a Member?
All parents and guardians of current Bootham School pupils (Junior and Senior) are encouraged to be members. The fee is a one-off charge of £5.00 per family added to the invoice for the autumn term. Families not wishing to be members should advise the Bursar. Funds are used to cover the general running costs of the Association and to subsidise certain activities including use of the school sports facilities and training. Funding of special projects by the staff and children is also supported.
What is the Discount Scheme
Each family is given a numbered BSA Membership Card. Certain businesses in York give a discount on goods or services provided to BSA members on production of this card. To see a current list of participating stores and businesses in York please click here. Remember to carry your card with you at all times and to use it as often as possible with the supporting businesses.
This list is reviewed annually and sent out in September. If you would like your business to be included please contact the Chairman.
Can I Join the Committee?
The BSA Committee year runs from November to November when new members can be added at the AGM if there are vacancies. The AGM date will be announced in advance and any member of the BSA may attend this meeting. Please see the BSA notice board for details. If you are interested in the work of the BSA and are considering joining, please get in touch with one of the persons listed above who would be delighted to explain the normal functions of the BSA and usual meeting times.
The BSA is separate from the Bootham School Trust, the aim of which is to create funds to support bursaries and capital projects for the school. The activities of the BSA and the Trust may sometimes be combined to support the Trust’s fundraising efforts.
