GARDENING ACTIVITY – FUTURE PLANS
Oliver McGregor, aged 13, describes his enthusiastic ideas for the future of the gardening activity. “We plan to be able to get our hands on exotic crops to garnish the garden’s every corner. In the centre of the garden we plan to surround our peas with hundreds upon thousands of beautiful flowers including heartsease of all colours. We also plan to provide the kitchen with a few of our crops and maybe win an award for the school to raise our prestige in the gardening world. With the help of BEAST we plan to counteract any non-environmental changes that will come to the school and make the school one of the top eco-schools in York and if not, we will make it the best eco-school. We plan to change the school for the better”.
BSA NEWS
Thursday 21st June: The BSA are supporting an evening at Bootham Junior school where there will be a talk by Jane Bradshaw. Jane is head of Amasango Street Children's School and every year Jane visits the UK to raise awareness about the plight of these children and to raise funds. She receives all her funding for the school from the UK. Jane is a very inspirational woman and Amasango Street Children's School is not the only school she has set up. Amasango School provides holistic care which includes a feeding programme, first aid and clinic visits, clothing and personal items and emotional support. It also enables learners to acquire a basic grounding in reading, writing, mathematics and basic life skills. Please do come, we think this talk will be of interest to both senior and junior school parents. The evening starts at 6 p.m. followed by refreshments and a performance by the school choir. Please click here for further information and a form to complete so that adequate catering can be provided.
BSA Ball 30th June: The Ball organisation is well underway, menus are chosen, tickets have gone on sale and dresses are being purchased! Please click here to download a ticket request form. Please make cheques payable to Bootham School Association, (not Alison Gammon). Apologies for any confusion caused on the ticket request form.

The highlight of this week for reception class was being taught to Waltz and Cha Cha Cha by one of our parents, Neil Ashton, a former British Champion

SPORTS RESULTS
It has been a busy week. Last Friday the Junior and Senior schools joined together to take part in the annual Bootham Biathlon. This was an excellent occasion and well done to all who took part. The senior school winners were Alex Riches and Grace Whorley.
Rounders: On Saturday we welcomed Queen Marys to play four games of rounders . Our visitors are traditionally strong, but we finished the afternoon all square. The U14s and U13s struggled against their opposition, but the U15s played some outstanding rounders to win 6½ - 4 and the U12 finished their game with Megan Campbell and Maria Winter scoring 7 rounders between them at the end of the match to win. On Monday the U14 and 15 rounders teams played against Archbishop Holgates and both teams dominated their games winning comfortably , 22½ - 5 and 21 - 6½ respectively. On Tuesday, the U12 rounders team faced a strong Queen Margaret’s side. We showed confidence and flair both batting and fielding and completely dominated the game 22 – 15. An excellent team performance. The U18s played their last rounders match for Bootham against St Peter’s on Wednesday afternoon. In the brilliant sunshine, we scored over 25 rounders in the first innings. St Peters had no reply with our quick thinking and accurate bowling they were outplayed. The final score 31 to 18. Many thanks to the U18s who have been a real pleasure to be with over the last seven years.
Girls’ Tennis: On Wednesday evening the U14 tennis team visited St Peter’s; it was a slightly depleted team due to the Combined Athletics event being held at the same time. It was a well battled match by the Bootham girls ending in a narrow loss by 29 games to 22. The U14 tennis team played against Pocklington on Thursday evening – a tough match, in very hot weather ended in a loss for our girls by 5 sets to 1.
Boys’ Tennis: The U18 team travelled to Appleton Roebuck tennis club on Tuesday evening. The team won three of their singles games and both doubles matches to win 5 sets to 1. The very young team consisted of Jack Forsdike, Tom Plowman, Arun Smith and Freddy Batchelor-Collins. The U14 team had a very tough time against Pocklington on Monday losing 6-0, whilst the U14 team were also defeated by Poppleton tennis club on Thursday. The U13 team had a fantastic win against Cundall Manor on Thursday. James Nelson, Tom Williams and Jack Catchpole all won their singles games, with the first two also winning their doubles game.
Cricket: The U15 team were in good form last Saturday against Yapham Cricket Club. Bootham score 136 in their overs, with Yapham falling well short of the total in reply. There were two close games against St Peter's teams on Wednesday, with Bootham unfortunately narrowly losing out in both. The U14's scored 73-9 in their match and were bowled into contention after three quick wickets and some excellent spin bowling by Angus Illingworth. Unfortunately, St Peter's managed to scrape the runs with an over to spare. The U15 team scored a competitive 114 All Out in their game, with St Peter's again just doing enough to win in the last over. The U12 team progressed to the second round of the district cup on Thursday against Manor. Bootham bowled really well to bowl the opposition out for 42. After some early wickets, Bootham saw the game out with five wickets remaining.
