Stuart Wakefield, Building Development Manager, starts his retirement on Monday. We thank him for his excellent and skilful work in guiding us through the numerous development projects that have taken place over the last 3 years. He leaves us with everything in place for the start of the art, music and performance building, and his quiet and assured professionalism has been constant throughout his time at Bootham.
WORK UNDERTAKEN IN THE EASTER HOLIDAYS
Our Estates Manager, Craig Pierotti, reports that the estates, residential and development teams have completed an enormous amount of work over the Easter holidays covering some 50 projects and numerous minor repairs. They have also been checking thousands of pieces of equipment. Craig would like to say a big thank you to all the staff involved in this process which is an essential part of making the school environment a safe place for all students, staff and visitors.
PUBLIC EXAM INFORMATION
All of the students in Lower & Upper Senior and College have now been given their timetables for the summer exams. Individual exam timetables are also available to view on the parent portal. A whole school timetable for GCSE and AS/A2 exams is available on the website. Our Exams Officer, Debbie Sturdy, has compiled a booklet with answers to frequently asked questions about public exams – please click here to view.
Results Days 2012 - Please note that GCE A2/AS results day this year is Thursday 16 August and that GCSE results day is Thursday 23 August. Further information regarding collecting results will be given next term.
A REMINDER FOR SCHOOLROOMS
There is no change in the Schoolrooms dress code for the summer term: it is the same as the previous two terms. Girls will wear their Lindsay tartan kilts, plain navy blue tights or plain white or navy socks. Boys will continue to wear plain black or grey trousers. This will be easier and more straightforward for all. For full details of the dress code, click here. Please note that after Easter, Keal Teamwear will be open until 4pm on Saturdays.
PROPOSED TALK FOR PARENTS
The Bootham School Association is arranging a talk from Teenagers Translated. This will be run by Janey Downshire and Naella Grew; they are both mothers of teenagers and qualified counsellors who have been working with parents and also in schools for several years. They run courses to support adults and students during the teenage and pre-teen years. The session will probably last about two hours and consist of a talk followed by a question and answer session. Tea and coffee will be provided and the charge will be £10 per person to help towards costs. The focus will be on improving relationships with teenagers. It is not group therapy and there is no requirement to divulge anything personal! This comes highly recommended by a Bootham parent. More information is available on their website at www.teenagerstranslated.co.uk. The BSA want to make this available for as many parents as possible, and would like an indication of whether a Saturday morning or weekday evening in the summer term would be preferable. Please contact Alison Gammon (alison@regammon.plus.com) so that the level of interest can be gauged and it would be helpful to indicate your preference for timings. If the initial session is a success then further sessions can be arranged to cover different topics.
