PARKING ON SATURDAY 12 MAY
Please be aware that tomorrow is Old Scholars’ Day and there will be a large number of vehicles in school. If you can, please pick up off the premises at the end of Saturday morning school. Lunch for parents will be available as normal.
STOP PRESS – CHANGE OF DATE FOR LOWER SCHOOLROOM TRIP
The Lower School Room trip to The Wolds and Skipwith Common has been brought forward to May 16 so it doesn’t clash with the Songs of Praise filming on May 23rd. Please ensure your child comes to school ready for this trip on Wednesday 16th and as recent weather has been very changeable please ensure they have a waterproof jacket.
SUNSHINE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT
Lower Senior Geographers had an amazingly sunny field trip in the Lake District last week. Collecting data for their Controlled Assessment based around challenges created by tourism they visited Grasmere looking at the issues created by traffic and changes to shops and services; walked Cat Bells looking at footpath erosion management strategies and spent a morning on Low Bridge End Farm learning about diversification and the difficulty of turning a profit on a small hill farm. The students behaved extremely well and despite being worked hard they seem to have enjoyed the experience. Many thanks to all those involved.

YEAR 5 AND 6 CANOEING AND KAYAKING CLUB
As the river was so high last week we had to wait for the first session of Bootham Junior School Canoeing and Kayaking Club. 14 children from Year 5 and 6 went to Aldwark Toll Bridge to take part in the canoeing session, a sport that Year 6 had experienced earlier in the year at Bewerley Park. Buoyancy aids and helmets were fitted and checked before getting on the water for the first time. Despite the fact that most of the group had done this before, working together and turning round still proved pretty challenging! A great time was had by all and we look forward to our next sessions which is kayaking.

LOWER SCHOOLROOM ROMAN MORNING

On Wednesday morning Lower Schoolroom were visited by two Romans, Gaius and Helena and spent an enjoyable time learning about different aspects of Roman life. They tasted some Roman bread and learnt about recipes, they handled some everyday Roman objects such as a wax tablet and a gameboard and dressed up in Roman-style clothes. The morning ended with a fascinating session about warfare on the school field. Ben Kelsall modelled some heavy chain mail and other pupils tried out some interesting battle tactics while handling various weapons and shields.
SPORTS RESULTS
Cricket: Two matches were completed this week. The 1st XI managed to complete a game in poor conditions on Wednesday. They played Read School and bowled them out for 112. Unfortunately, Bootham fell short of the runs required with a score of 88 for 8. The U13 team lost to St Olave's on Tuesday. Bootham posted a total of 74 in their allotted overs, with St Olave's managing to get the runs with a couple of overs to spare.
Rounders: The under 12 and 13 rounders teams have begun the season with excellent promise, winning both their matches convincingly against Archbishop Holgates on Tuesday. Two senior rounders teams travelled to Queen Margaret’s on Wednesday where we battled in appalling conditions. The A team lost by half a rounder and the Bs clung onto a draw. Let’s pray for some better weather next week!
