FRENCH EXCHANGE OCTOBER 2012 AND MAY 2013
A quick update:
1. We are still waiting to book the flights to Carcassonne. Although we can book the outward journey, the return journey is not yet available.
2. A colleague in France has found 25 pupils to take part in the exchange and he should be sending details in the next few weeks. As soon as we have the information, we'll pair up the pupils and let you have contact details.
3. Richard Taylor will be giving a short presentation on the exchange during Parents’ Day so you will have the opportunity to ask questions then.
If you have any queries in the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact Richard Taylor.

YEAR 5 AT YORK MINSTER
The recent visit to York Minster was a very fitting and awe inspiring experience to conclude Year 5’s R.E. topic about Christianity. The first hour was spent in the education rooms learning about the Minster, its history, its use as a Place of Christian Worship and also about the people who work there. Some children were able to dress up as a Dean of the Minster and an Archbishop and the pupils learnt about the history of the garments. The visit included a tour around the Minster, and ended with a service. Pupils sat in a circle with a candle placed in the centre and spent a few quiet moments thinking of others.
AUTHOR WORKSHOP
Alan Gibbons, award winning children’s author, came to Bootham on Monday and met Schoolroom students. Winner of the Blue Peter Book Award and shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, Alan has been described as a rising star in children’s fiction. Our students enjoyed hearing him reading from his work and telling us more about how to become a writer.
RENTAL PROPERTY SOUGHT
The family of a new student (joining us in September) are looking to rent a property from this summer – at least 2 bedrooms and preferably within walking distance of the school. They have two very well behaved dogs. Does anyone know of a property? If you can help, please contact Jenny Daly in the Admissions Office and she will put you in touch with the family – email: jenny.daly@boothamschool.com
QUAKERS IN EDUCATION – A DIALOGUE
Your attention is drawn to a one day conference in Birmingham on 28th June on Quaker involvement in education. Jonathan has helped to organise this in partnership with the other Quaker independent schools in the UK. The interactive conference will seek to answer the following questions: What is the particular contribution that Quaker values make to education? How can we support Friends working in maintained schools? How can our values more effectively challenge current ways of thinking about education? The conference is aimed at teachers from all sectors, school governors, academics and anyone else interested in education. Full details and application form are available on this link.
