Job Vacancies

Information for all Posts

Bootham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All appointments are subject to a satisfactory CRB Enhanced Disclosure.

We currently have the following vacancies:

'Resident Graduate' opportunities     Job reference no: RG2012

We are looking for up to seven recent graduates to play a leading role in its leisure activities scheme and assist with duties in boarding houses. We offer full board during school terms and a small remuneration.

For those seeking to undertake further studies at University after a first degree this scheme provides an excellent opportunity to get involved in the extra-curricular life of a distinguished school while studying. While it would provide useful experience for those planning to undertake PGCEs, we have found it to be difficult for such students to combine the responsibilities of a Resident Graduate with the time commitment of teaching practice.

The programme is excellent for those unsure of the way ahead and offers a year of purposeful and busy activity with youngsters. An ideal chance to do something valuable and enjoyable while having time to think!

‘Resident Writer’ opportunity     Job reference no. WinR2012

The role offers a year of purposeful and busy activity unlocking potential skills and aptitudes through inspiring our young people. We are proud of our ‘creative teaching style’ and that we encourage our young people to have ‘open minds’ enabling them to express themselves creatively.

We seek to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic artist to join our forward thinking and highly successful Art department from September 2012.

Our objective in Bootham Art Department is to enable our students to acquire an individual and distinctive creative voice. That voice should allow each student to articulate their response to the inner and outer worlds of human experience in an array of creative forms. The department is well-resourced, superbly staffed by a diverse team of practising artists, and has an enviable record of examination success and extra-curricular activity. This is a part-time post: it is expected that the successful candidate will teach approximately ten, thirty five minute periods per week across all year groups, allowing ample time for independent work outside of school time. The working environment at Bootham is positive and supportive and the school provides the perfect environment for students and staff to explore their creativity.

It is hoped that the successful candidate will complement the strengths, skills and subject knowledge offered by the existing teaching staff as they plan for exciting future curriculum developments. Expertise in textiles techniques will be looked upon favourably.
