I was delighted to be asked to be the President of BOSA for the next two years until 2010; our thanks go to my predecessors, Valerie and Michael Allen, for all their hard work over the past two years.
After a very happy seven years at Bootham between 1957 and 1964, I spent over 30 years working for Marks and Spencer.
I am married to a Mount Old Scholar, Caroline, and we were delighted that our four daughters were educated at the Mount.
I was an Old Scholars’ representative on Schools Committee for almost twenty years, during which time, my responsibilities included Treasurer, Deputy Clerk and Clerk to the Finance and Estates Committee.
It was an exciting time for me, and included many important decisions about the future of the school. Just two examples were the introduction of Girl Boarders to Bootham and the acquisition of Ebor, the Junior School and the subsequent move to it’s present site at Rawcliffe Lane.
An education at Bootham is an unforgettable experience and one for which I was extremely grateful.
The school continues to prosper under the enlightened guidance of the Headmaster, Jonathan Taylor, and his dedicated staff.
I would encourage Old Scholars to visit the school if at all possible and to see for themselves all the changes taking place; if not, please keep in touch through BOSA, the Bootham magazine and the website.
