Reunion Review 2010

Reunion 2010

Friday evening saw a wonderful presentation by a group of Bootham and Mount old scholars talking about the two schools during the Second World War – titled “when we were young”. Donald Gray and Christine Johnson led a fascinating evening of photos, film clips and memoirs including a moving talk by Harry Ransom-Rose. The eloquence and mental agility of some of the old scholars from both schools was truly amazing.

Saturday was a beautiful day and the events, changed somewhat from previous years, were all extremely well appreciated. Following the Annual Meeting, tours were arranged of the school “at work” followed by lunch for all in the restaurant – excellent as usual. In the afternoon, a new idea of “access all areas” was tried where old scholars could choose to visit old haunts. Whether this was the old radio rooms, the old observatory or some secret place where an illicit cigarette was smoked – nowhere was out of bounds.

The dinner took on a much lighter note and the venue and food at York Racecourse were excellent as usual. The Mount Swing Band played during the reception set the mood. In a break from tradition which in the past has seen very serious reports about academic and other achievements, the Heads of the two schools, Jonathan Taylor and Julie Lodrick performed a double act throwing questions to old scholars of both schools ranging from school slang to more personal questions about boyfriends and girlfriends at the other school – a most enjoyable evening.

Girls playing netball

Old Scholar sports fixtures this March saw the BOSA Netball Team triumph but the BOSA footballers went down to the current 1st X1 (photos above and below). Both were great matches and very well attended by old scholars; the BOSA football enthusiasts being able to field a whole substitute team for the second half!
